“If we don’t have a theology that embraces mental illness, our God is too small.” —William Paul Young, author of The Shack I was a pastor when I nearly died by suicide. I was 28 years old, married five years, and the proud father of a tiny baby boy. No one saw it coming (usually […]
I don’t like being a Christian today. Actually, I should say, I don’t like most Christians today. Wait. What I really mean is, I don’t want to fight with Christians anymore. I was once a youth pastor, a speaker, a worship leader, an avid blogger, and a radio host. Everything that entered my brain was […]
Our wedding day was perfect – if by perfect you mean borrowed folding chairs from the Baptist church and a catering team that consisted of grandmothers, aunts, and best friends. We were so busy dancing and mingling that we didn’t even get to eat our own wedding potluck. On bad days, you probably say really shitty things to yourself that you’d never-in-a-million-years say to anybody you actually care about. I hear you. And I get it. But friends, I’m done. I’m […]
Are you ready to get your life back? Over the past ten years, whether I’ve been serving as a worship pastor, best-selling author, blogger, or host of CXMH, my goal has remained constant: to shatter the lies of shame with love and messy grace. As a self-care coach, I believe life is all about taking my story and using it to […]
