Each time I have an initial consult with a self-care client, one of the questions I ask is, “What are you doing for your self-care right now?” Most of the time, when people come to me it’s because they either have no clue where to begin, or they think they’ve tried it all and are so exhausted they just want a professional to tell them what to do.
Another question I ask is, “What’s the one thing you want to fix today?” The responses to this question vary with each person, but invariably, the client will say something like, “You mean I can only pick one?!?”
