Ending the Stigma of Mental Illness in Christian Communities

"A deep sense of love and belonging is an irreducible need of all people. We are biologically, cognitively, physically, and spiritually wired to love, to be loved, and to belong. When those needs are not met, we don't function as we were meant to. We break. We fall apart. We numb. We ache. We hurt others. We get sick."

-Brene Brown

Do you get uncomfortable when someone tells you kind things about your self-worth? Do you cringe, like me, when someone grabs you by the shoulders, looks you square in the eyes and says, "Hey, you! You matter!"? Shame is a powerful force, but I am excited to tell you about a great site, dedicated to fighting the shame and stigma of mental illness.

Today, I'm sharing the story of my suicide attempt and recovery with "Worth More Than Many Sparrows". The blog exists, "to be a light in a world that can feel so dark and dismal – help us end the stigma surrounding mental health."

These are my people.

They get it. And they are doing everything they can to change their world, my world.

You may have already read the story of my suicide attempt. You might know how my recovery is shaping up, three years later, but go visit their site and read the incredible stories of others. You'll be encouraged and inspired.

Are two sparrows not sold for a penny? Yet not one of them falls to the ground outside your Father's care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are worth more than sparrows.
